Austin Wintory

Austin Wintory began his obsession with music back when he was ten years old, when he discovered Jerry Goldsmith’s scores to PATTON and A PATCH OF BLUE. Now, his obsession having mutated into a career of his own, his music can be heard in more than 300 productions, in addition to a diverse collection of chamber, orchestral and vocal works. Most recently, the Playstation3 title JOURNEY released March 2012, occupied Austin for over 3 years and is widely considered among the best games of 2012. The score was recorded by an all-star ensemble of soloists including cellist Tina Guo and Lisbeth Scott, in addition to the Macedonia Radio Symphony Orchestra. The soundtrack album topped the charts worldwide, scoring eight #1's and over 20 Top 10's and hit the Billboard Charts higher than any original score from a videogame in history. Previously, Austin scored the acclaimed Playstation-3 game FLOW, for which he received a British Academy Award nomination, and the GANG Award for 'Rookie of the Year.' In the world of film, Austin has scored over 40 feature films, including most recently, THE GRIEF TOURIST starring Michael Cudlitz (Band of Brothers, Southland) and Melanie Griffith.  His first major film score, for the Sundance Festival-winning film CAPTAIN ABU RAED was shortlisted for the 2009 Academy Awards for Best Original Score. Shortly afterward, the Hollywood Reporter named Austin "One of 15 Composers Primed to Join the A-List."  Austin also avidly composes concert music, and is the current Composer-in-Residence for the Boulder Symphony in Colorado. Passionate about education, Austin is a regular public speaker at schools and conferences, in addition to pre-concert talks and workshops. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the non-profit Education Through Music - Los Angeles (www.etmla.org).
